OSHOGBO– a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, the capital of State of Osun has sentenced one Sulaiman Awokunle, an Oshogbo man to six months imprisonment for stealing a ram kept for Sallah.
According to Police prosecutor of the case at the Magistrate’s Court, Elisa Olusegun, informed the honourable court that 30-year-old Awokunle Sulaiman stole the ram valued at N25, 000 from Saka Idowu around 6 am inside Onunrin’s compound in Iree.
Prosecutor Olusegun furthermore informed the court that the accused person committed an offense contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the criminal code, cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Odun state of Nigeria, 2003.
The suspect Awokunle pleaded guilty to the one count of theft levelled against him and pleaded for mercy, Daily Trust reported.
The suspect’s lawyer, Najite Okobe, said his client was a first-time offender and urged the court to be lenient in his punishment.
Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba convicted Awokunle and sentenced him to six months imprisonment. However, the Magistrate gave him an option of N4, 000 fine in the spirit of Eid el-Kabir.
